About the Training

Join the Group Soundbath Player™ (GSP™) Certification Course – a comprehensive sound bath practitioner training for playing therapeutic-style sound baths with crystal singing bowls and gongs.

Created for individuals seeking to deliver consistent and impactful sound baths, this course is an evolution of the successful Sound Bath Practitioner Training launched in 2017 by Jamie Bechtold and Robert Lee in Los Angeles. It has been meticulously refined to provide students with all the tools and knowledge necessary to offer professional sound baths as a service. The course’s flexibility allows for completion in as little as four months or up to twelve, catering to various schedules. It is entirely online, with the option for an in-person instrument consultation and gong-playing lessons.

The GSP™ course offers a structured approach to playing therapeutic-style sound baths, with specialized techniques and insights gathered from over 20 years of experience in the field. Students will benefit from the exclusive, proprietary methods developed from leading more than 3,500 public sound baths and teaching hundreds of students since 2012. What Does the Sound Bath Training Include?

The GSP™ certification course is offered online, with plenty of live support throughout. The Course Start Date is chosen when students register and is the date their course access begins. Nothing is required on this date, it is just when the 12 months of access starts. Students who earn a certification are certified in playing therapeutic-style sound baths using our proprietary methods.

This course is done at your own pace and will take 4-6 months to complete once you have your instruments.

Do I Need Sound Bath Instruments to Get Started?

You can get started without any instruments. However, to complete the course, all participants must have access to a basic sound bath setup, which includes:

  1. One 30” or larger gong made of nickel silver, or bronze (bronze Chau, not a wind gong).
  2. Large gong mallet and two small or medium gong mallets.
  3. Five crystal singing bowls—two bowls must be in the 3rd octave and the rest in the 4th octave.
  4. Two crystal bowl mallets that allow playing on the rim and side.
  5. One Complementary Instrument (bead drum, Raintower, or Percussion Tube)

In addition, each participant will need a computer or tablet with a stable internet connection, a decibel meter (stand-alone preferred), and a phone or device that records audio and video.

Common Sound Bath Training Questions

How is this course offered?

This is an online course and there is an option to attend an in person instrument consultation for no additional charge. Students also receive discounted one-to-one gong lessons, which can be conducted in person or online. The course combines recorded and live content with practice assignments.  When you register, you will choose your start date, which is the date your access to the course begins. There is a start date every month starting in 2025.  Access to the course is available for 12 months from your chosen start date. In person lessons may also be offered as part of the course (for an additional fee).

 

What if I can’t start on the Course Start Date?

That’s okay! The Course Start Date is when you receive access to the course content, and you don’t have to do anything on this date. You will have access to the course for an entire year.

 

How do I sign up for the course?

Registration will be available by the end of August. The first start date is in October, and there is a new start date every month.

 

Will I learn how to do sound healing as well?

Sound healing is a term usually used for private one-to-one sessions. This course does not cover how to offer private sound healing sessions.

 

Will I learn how to facilitate a sound meditation?

A therapeutic-style sound bath is very similar to a sound meditation. Both terms are often used to describe similar services.

 

Will I learn how to play other sound healing instruments like chimes and tuning forks?

This course covers playing gongs, crystal singing bowls, and many other sound bath instruments (also called sound healing instruments). Information about chimes, Himalayan Singing Bowls (often referred to as Tibetan Singing Bowls), tuning forks, and other various instruments are included in the course content.

 

Will I learn how to do a private sound therapy session?

This course is about playing group therapeutic-style sound baths. It does not cover how to do private sessions.

 

Do you offer multiple levels of sound bath training?

Our original Soundbath Practitioner Training was offered in two parts – level 1 and level 2. The new training is much more comprehensive and combines much of the content from those levels plus much more.

 

Will I learn about the Chakras?

This course briefly discusses crystal bowls and Chakras; however, the main goal is to learn to play an effective therapeutic-style sound bath. Learning about Chakras or energy healing is not a primary part of this course.

 

Will I learn the Sound Bath benefits?

Yes, this course covers the benefits of sound baths and how to play effectively.

 

Will I be able to hold my own sound bath teacher training after this course?

No, this course is for learning how to play sound baths, not teaching others how to play. All students sign an NDA agreeing not to teach the information learned in this course to others.

 

What is my title after completing the course? Am I a sound healer or sound bath practitioner?

Those who complete the entire course and pass the certification exam earn the title of “Certified Group Soundbath Player™.”

 

Will I learn how to incorporate a sound bath into yoga?

This course teaches you to lead a full therapeutic-style sound bath. With what you learn, you will be able to incorporate this style of sound bath into yoga, or any other type of wellness modality or healing practice.

 

Does your sound bath training offer yoga alliance CEUs?

No, we do not offer yoga alliance CEUs.

 

Will I learn to play sound baths for both individuals and groups?

This course focuses on playing for groups, but you can also play for an individual if you prefer. The knowledge and skills that you gain can be used for any amount of participants, from one to one thousand and beyond.

 

Do you offer any other online courses?

What if I want to learn in person?

Students get a discounted price on in-person (or online) one-to-one gong lessons to complement their training. Each participant also receives a free in-person (or online) small group instrument consultation where they get to hear the gongs in person.

 

What am I certified in?

Students who successfully complete the course and all steps to certification receive the credential Certified Group Soundbath Player™. They are certified to play a therapeutic-style sound bath using our proprietary methods and techniques.

Your Sound Bath Certification Teachers

This course was created and is taught by Jamie Bechtold and Robert Lee, sound bath and wellness experts with over 45 years of combined experience. Jamie has been playing sound baths since 2003 and has conducted more than 3,500 public group sound bath events. Robert has been teaching breathwork for over 12 years and has worked in the fitness and wellness industry since 1997.

Together, they created The Soundbath Center, Los Angeles’s premiere venue for sound baths and pioneered the original Group Soundbath Practitioner Training in 2017. Jamie and Robert have developed unique sound bath events including, Breathwork SoundLab™, GongPlay® Soundbath, ThetaBeats® Soundbath, DrumFlow®Soundbath, and DrumBath® Ceremony.
